Commemoration ceremonies

100-0011_img On every June 2, we commemorate the anniversary of the execution of General Henryk Kowalówka (pseudonym “Zrąb”), Commander of the Polish Home Army (AK) in the Poznań area and his officers and soldiers murdered in the Nazi camp in Żabikowo. The events always give rise to reflections and memories about people who sacrificed their lives for their underground activity and about the generation who has survived the war and cultivates the memory of the tragic fate of their superiors and colleagues.

Thus, for a couple of years, ceremonies on the grounds of the former Nazi camp in Żabikowo have been regularly held by the World Union of the Polish Home Army Soldiers – Executive Board of the Wielkopolska Province and Środowisko “Pałac” including former Home Army soldiers, scouts of the Grey Ranks (Szare Szeregi), victims’ families, representatives of state and local authorities as well as schoolchildren and university students. The ceremony is a homage paid to all those who were executed in the camp and whose heroism deserves everlasting remembrance.
